I'm leaving Longview and I'm heading out west

It's getting harder to say goodbye

another day on the road, another night all alone

sometimes I wonder why

She sits by the phone, waiting for my call

just to hear that I'm okay

I tell her I'm fine, but my words can't explain

what my heart longs to say

I find the only gas station in this no name town

ask directions to the fair

I pull up to the arena and pay my fees

and find my pockets now are bare

I'm a couple hundred short of making the finals

I know today is going to be my day

but it's a wasted good draw, another 7 second ride

and 7 seconds never does pay

I head back to my car, and curl up on my cot

and dream them motel cowboy dreams
