A Song in Third Person

Cole’s up on the stage, sitting on his stool

Singing songs in 3rd person about some lonesome fool

It’s a 3 hour gig, $100 and tips

A couple of beers, a burger and chips

There’s a fat man at a table with his friends all around

They laugh at his jokes because he buys the round

They’re loud and obnoxious, unruly and raucous

Shouting out orders at the human jukeboxes

Play something we know

Something to dance to

Not too slow

Do you know that one by ol’ so and so?

Cole smiles and just says no

He smiles and just says no

Cole’s watching the Rangers up on the big screen

And trying to remember the next words to sing

And the crowd starts cheering when the song is done

Or maybe they were cheering for the Beltre home run

Yea I think they were cheering for the Beltre home run

Play something we know

Something to dance to

Not too slow

Do you know that one by ol’ so and so?

Cole smiles and just says no

He smiles and just says no

Play something we know

Something to dance too

Not too slow

Do you know that one by David Allan Coe?

Cole lies and just says no

For $20 he just might know
